FUN lovers in Gweru are in for a rare treat this weekend with a medley of potentially explosive gigs lined up across the city. Rarely does Gweru get such a jam packed weekend entertainment diary and no serious fun lover in the city would want to miss out on this one. The fun kicks off tonight with a gig dubbed “The Colleges Welcome Back Bash” at the Midlands Hotel Conference Centre.

Rapper and CEO of Tazoita Cash Records, Stunner, headlines the bash which will also feature Harare-based wheel-spinners Judgment Yard, songstress Cynthia Mare and Gweru’s dancehall Muso Legion of the Mudhara Wemangoma fame.

Judgment Yard, which is made up of the trio, DJ Flava, Etherton Binnie and 2Bad, will also use the show to launch their Volume 18 mixtape. Other artistes billed to perform at the show tonight include Lewaz Skattah, Shastro, Soul Africa, The Tytan and Flava.

Organiser of the show, DJ Blesh told Chronicle Entertainment that the show is a welcome back gesture to students at various colleges in and around Gweru fresh from vacation.

“The show is basically a welcome back tribute to students at colleges in and around the city. It’s going to be the biggest gig ever to be hosted in Gweru and we are looking forward to a fabulous night,” said DJ Blesh.

Across town at Gweru Sports Club it will be clash of the titans as the city’s best DJs take to the turntables for an open air bash at the rugby field.  Tune Master and Brick City, among other wheel-spinners, will take turns to mesmerise revellers with their selections.

The fun continues tomorrow with Sungura ace, Alick Macheso, set to perform at Cecil Hotel in his first performance in Gweru this year. The Sungura maestro would want to use the show to prove to his Gweru followers and prove to critics that he still has what it takes to crown him as king of sungura. Earlier in the afternoon, dancehall man of the moment Shinsoman of the Mawayawaya fame will be in Mutapa high-density for a once off performance at Mtapa Hall, courtesy of Blackface Entertainment.

Shinsoman’s last visit to Gweru, about two weeks ago, was a successful one as he managed to wow the city’s dancehall fans with his energetic performance which kept fans on their feet all night.

The microphone chanter (emcee) will be hoping for a repeat performance.  Elsewhere football lovers will get a treat of some football action at Ascot Stadium when Chapungu and Highlanders clash in the semi-finals of the CG Msipa Charity Shield.

Football fans will be spoilt for choice for their after party as a number of nightspot centre will be hosting a variety of shows. Shinsoman will wrap up his visit to Gweru with a performance at Downtown Oasis tomorrow night.

He will be ably supported by local emcees such as Legion Lewaz Skatta and Jungle Rebel. The Bowling Club will not be outdone as DJ Mupsyville will be at his usual best, churning out hit after hit from the turntables.

The fun packed weekend winds up on Sunday as all roads will lead to Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane for the final of the CG Msipa Charity soccer tournament.
