INDUSTRY and Commerce Minister, Mangaliso Ndlovu yesterday implored departments under the ministry to align with the expectations of President Mnangagwa of high work ethic, humility, respect and integrity to meet service delivery expectations.

Minister Ndlovu said this during the 2024 signing of performance contracts in his ministry in Harare recently.

He said the performance contracts demonstrate the ministry’s unwavering commitment to delivering results, driving excellence and fostering transparency.

“The signing of these contracts signifies a bold step towards achieving our shared vision of a more efficient, responsive and accountable Government. Performance contracts provide us with a comprehensive framework to measure, monitor and evaluate the performance of our departments and agencies. They serve as a roadmap, guiding us toward the achievement of specific, measurable, and impactful outcomes that directly benefit our citizens and stakeholders.”

Last month, ministers and heads of public sector agencies signed performance-based contracts as the Government consolidates a high-delivery culture ushered in by the Second Republic.

Analysts have since hailed the move introduced by President Mnangagwa in 2021, saying it was the way to go as it increases productivity.

Minister Ndlovu further added that the signing of contracts reaffirms commitment to transparency and accountability.

“We recognise that the trust bestowed upon us by the public comes with the responsibility to deliver on our promises and ensure that every action we take is in the best interest of those we serve.

“To ensure the successful implementation of these contracts, we will establish robust monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. Regular progress reports will be prepared and performance reviews will be conducted to track our achievements, identify areas for improvement and address any challenges that may arise along the way.”

He implored ministry officials to strive for excellence, innovation and continuous improvement.

To that end, he stressed that the ministry is committed to ensuring that boards are fully constituted to ensure enforcement and compliance to the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act, hence the matter is under consideration.

“As I sign these contracts with you, I expect everyone to align with the expectations of His Excellency the President wherein he emphasised on high work ethic, humility, respect and integrity, to ensure that service delivery and expectations of the general populaces thus living no one and no place behind. In addition, innovation, industrialisation, rural development and implementation of the e-government system should be of major priority.”
