THE Minister of Rural Development, Promotion and Preservation of National Culture and Heritage, Abednico Ncube has revealed that a private ward and a one-stop centre for sexual abuse victims will be opened at Gwanda Provincial Hospital. Officially opening the Inkonyane Children’s Ward at Gwanda Provincial Hospital which was refurbished through an initiative by Colleen Bawn’s Pretoria Portland Cement (PPC) Women’s Forum, Minister Ncube urged the business community and concerned citizens to join hands with the Ministry of Health and Child Care in improving health services.

“I’m aware of the various joint ventures and public private partnerships the hospital has with private players. Soon a one-stop centre for sexual abuse will open its doors. I know of plans to upgrade the mortuary and to establish a state of the art private ward,” said Minister Ncube.

“For those looking into how you can partner and assist the hospital, there’s a great need on having proper casualty and emergency care infrastructure. We’re all aware of the frequent accidents along the Bulawayo- Beitbridge highway. There is also a great need for a modern outpatients department, male and female wards and laboratory.’’

He said the hospital was in the process of establishing a renal unit and funds permitting an intensive care unit as well.

Addressing the same gathering, the chairperson of the PPC women forum, Pauline Sibanda said the Gwanda Children’s Ward was identified as the main beneficiary of the forum’s activities.
