Hwange miss flight

With the missed flight, Chipangano will have just one full day in Sudan before taking to the field on Friday, 7.30 pm local time.
The team will, however, fly out this afternoon after the Ministry of Foreign Affairs assured Zifa that fighting was on borders between Sudan and South Sudan.
FC Platinum who play El Merreikh, 11 km from the Sudan capital Khartoum on Saturday, will fly out tomorrow afternoon.
“Hwange were supposed to fly out yesterday but they had problems with visas so by the time they came out, their flight had already taken off. They will, however, leave this afternoon and arrive in Sudan at 2am on Wednesday,” said Zifa chief executive officer Jonathan Mashingaidze.

On the issue of security, Mashingaidze said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs informed them that northern Sudan was peaceful with fighting in the Sudan and South Sudan border, further south.
“They have, however, asked us to keep them up to date in terms of the size of our delegation and any movement while there,” said Mashingaidze.
Hwange secretary Burzil Dube confirmed that they are flying out today via Ethiopia where they will then get a connecting flight to Sudan.
“We have been assured by Zifa that we will be safe there,” said Dube.

Following an outbreak of sporadic fighting on the border separating Sudan and South Sudan, Zifa were on red alert and asked for an assurance on the safety and security of the Zimbabwean delegation in that country.
Both teams now need to concentrate on the field of play and post victories in order to progress to the next round.
Hwange were held to a 1-1 draw at the Colliery Stadium two weeks ago with FC Platinum twice coming from behind to eventually draw 2-2 at Rufaro Stadium.

Chipangano and Kugona Kunenge Kudada go into the crucial weekend matches buoyed by their wins in the opening matches of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season, Hwange recording a 4-3 win over new boys Quelaton while the Zvishavane-based side cruised to a 3-1 win over police side Black Mambas. Tennant Chilumba would want to take full advantage of his opponents’ slump in form, having gone for four matches without a win.
Over the weekend, Al Amal Atbara drew 0-0 with Jazeerat Al Feel while Rahman Gumbo’s opponents won 3-2 against Al Khartoum.

A win for the Zimbabwean sides will see Hwange dating either Inteclube of Angola or Madagascar’s Tana while FC Platinum will face the winner between Zambia’s Power Dynamos and Democratic Republic of Congo’s TP Mazembe.
Tana carry a 2-0 lead ahead of the weekend clash in Angola while the former African champions TP Mazembe drew 1-1 against Power Dynamos but are favourites to finish off the Zambians in DRC.

The other Caf representative, Dynamos, are home to Mozambique’s Liga Muculmana at Rufaro Stadium this Sunday and are strong favourites to pull through after holding the Mozambican side to a 2-2 draw.
