FORMER Hwange, Black Rhinos, Motor Action and ZPC Hwange steely defender Norman Njelele has died.

He was 33.

Njelele died on Sunday at the Hwange Colliery Hospital where he had been rushed to after collapsing at his Empumalanga home.

“Norman was at his home in Empumalanga suburb when he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to hospital around 7am, but unfortunately passed away around 5pm on the same day,” said a close family friend Irvine Madzura.

“From what I gather, he had some health complications related to the heart and kidneys. It’s sad for someone I stayed with before he moved to his new home.”

Njelele joined Hwange in 2006 from Black Rhinos where he was a fringe player and featured for Chipangano for three years.

He played alongside Malvern Longwe, Alick Nyoni, Gilbert Zulu, Carrington Gomba, Vusumuzi Ndlovu and Ronald Zimbudzana at Hwange before leaving to join Motor Action in 2009.

He won the 2010 Premiership title with Motor Action before retracing his footsteps back to Hwange where he played for Zifa Southern Region Division One outfit ZPC Hwange from 2013 to the end of 2015 when he retired from the game.

Njelele will be buried in Gokwe on a date yet to be announced.

Mourners are gathered at C 171 Lwendulu Village.

He is survived by wife Princess Ncube and four children.
