“I’M the one person who cared about Senyaka more than anyone else!” These were the words of the musician and producer’s long-time friend Sello “Chicco” Thwala. He said although they hadn’t seen each other in over five years, he cared deeply about Senyaka, whose real name was Thula Kekana.

Senyaka died on Wednesday at a hospital in Vereeniging, the Vaal, South Africa after a long illness.

“No one can say I didn’t care about him because I bought him a house in Orlando when his family didn’t care.

“They only care about him now that he’s dead. I didn’t neglect him. I will go to the funeral no matter what,” Chicco said.

Emotions were running high at Senyaka’s house in Orlando Gardens, Soweto on Wednesday.

According to his promoter and producer Sipho Mbuyisa, Senyaka was suffering from chest problems shortly before he died.

“He was coughing and vomiting blood before his death. Although I didn’t see him during his last days, I knew he was suffering from TB and meningitis.”

He said at the time of Senyaka’s death, they were planning to promote his new album, I’m Back.

Senyaka’s brother Mayisela Kekana, said: “We had a good relationship and the family nursed him when he was ill.”

When asked about Chicco going to the funeral, he said: “In African culture, you can’t stop anyone from attending a funeral but he can’t comment on my brother without consulting the family first.”

Senyaka’s funeral service will be held in Orlando and the arrangements will be announced soon. — DailySun.
