Inaugural food and wine fest in Bulawayo

A food and wine festival where three top chefs, Joseph Baleni, David Mbongeni Masuku and Zinzile Masiye are expected to show people how to pair their meals with wine will be held this weekend to get people into the festive mood.

The two-day event which will have live musical performances will be held from Saturday at popular eatery, Smokehouse Bar and Grill with Kumusha Wines set to take people through wine tasting.

Kumusha Wines is the brainchild of Zimbabwean sommelier, Tinashe Nyamudoka who is based in South Africa.
Organiser of the event, former model Samantha Tshuma said the event is basically about wine tasting and pairing wine with food by the chefs.

“It’s a food and wine festival featuring some good Zimbabwean wine by Tinashe and great food by Chef Joseph Baleni. It’s never been done before and this will be the very first food and wine festival in Bulawayo.

“We want to introduce something fun, different and classy that will attract people who love good wine and good food. This is why we didn’t select random cooks, but three top chefs in Bulawayo,” said Tshuma.

Chef Zinzile’s culinary journey spans nearly 10 years. She has worked at Elephant Hills Resort, Victoria Falls Hotel, Shearwater Café and Victoria Falls Safari Club. She shares recipes and cooking tips on her Facebook page, Simple Home Cooking.

Tinashe Nyamudoka

Chef David Masuku who has also worked at Victoria Falls Safari Club has been head chef at The River Brewing Company in Victoria Falls, travelled to America and worked at The Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado. He describes his culinary craft as inspired by cultural diversity, artistic expression and enriching experiences.

Tinashe Nyamudoka

Chef Joseph Baleni who once worked at The Kingdom Hotel in Victoria Falls runs and is the Executive Chef at Gourmet Eats, his catering company. He is also the head chef at Zarah Lounge and Cubana in Bulawayo.
