TUSKERS have partnered with Wholesale Beef to launch an Under-15 T20 cricket tournament that will mark the restart of developmental cricket in Bulawayo.

Elephants, Lions, Talons and Wsb Bulls will take part in the Under-15 competition.

The competition will be played in a round robin format, with the final set for Queens Sports Club on November 7.

Competition organiser Simba Kusano said the event will be a huge mental boost for the young cricketers, who have been inactive for almost two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“This competition is an initiative by Wholesale Beef and Tuskers and is being organised by Catchtym Investments. Our aim is to impart professional cricket training and education to grassroots level cricketers and to provide opportunities for them to excel. The reason we organised this competition is largely hinged on the fact that the kids have not been playing competitive games due to Covid-19.

“Since spaces have now been opened for them to play, we saw it fit to give the youngsters an opportunity to get back to the game which they love. Close to two years of inactivity is quite a long period and can have a devastating impact on an athlete. We feel this competition will be vital for the mental and physical well-being of the kids,” said Kusano.

He said they will be introducing girls’ teams for the next editions of the competition.

“We hope to have girls for the next editions of the competition as you know women’s cricket is on the rise and we also want to tap into that talent. Hopefully for the next edition we will have girls’ teams,” said Kusano. – @innocentskizoe
