TSHOLOTSHO’s Landa J Nkomo High School, the brain child of the late Vice President John Landa Nkomo, is set to hold a fundraising dinner tomorrow in a bid to raise $5 000 for construction purposes.

The school was commissioned by President Mugabe in 2012 but is still to be completed due to funding challenges.

The school development committee (SDC) will hold a fund raising dinner at Tsholotsho Business Centre tomorrow starting at 6PM to raise $5 000 for the roofing of a Home Economics block.

The area’s councillor, who is also a member of the school’s SDC, Cde Melusi Ndebele, yesterday said lack of adequate infrastructure remains the biggest challenge for the growth of the school.

He appealed to the Tsholotsho community and Zimbabweans at large to come and help the school during its fundraising dinner.

“We’re targeting to raise $5 000 for a home economics classroom block that we constructed as the school development committee. Due to shortage of resources, we’re now failing to complete it. The fund raising dinner will be used to try and raise the funds,” said Cde Ndebele.

He said the community was prioritising the home economics block because upon its completion pupils will enhance their skills.

Cde Ndebele said the school runs a low cost boarding facility which does not have sufficient dormitories for pupils. He said the community has also engaged the Landa John Nkomo Memorial Trust (LJNMT) to ensure that the event is a success.

The late VP’s son, who is also the chairperson of the LJNMT, Mr Jabulani Nkomo, lauded the community for taking it upon itself to ensure that the school is completed.

Mr Nkomo said in supporting the school, the trust has so far raised about $5 500 for dormitories. He said the school was also accommodating and encouraging the marginalised San community to educate their children.

Mr Nkomo said the Trust would support the fund raising dinner and next year they will hold another event in Bulawayo to raise funds for the school.
