Ndodana Sibanda

SWAZILAND based Zimbabwean goalkeeper Ndodana Sibanda is reportedly being monitored by Orlando Pirates who see him as a potential replacement for the late Senzo Meyiwa.

The Bafana Bafana captain was murdered on 26 October during a botched robbery.

Orlando Pirates scouts were in Swaziland on Sunday to assess Ndodana of Moneni Pirates and Wanderers’ goalkeeper Sandile Ginindza.

The two top goalkeepers in Swaziland’s top flight league were monitored when their teams played in the MTN Premier League games played at Somhlolo National Stadium.

Ndodana is said to have put on a good performance even though Moneni Pirates were beaten 4-1 by Mbabane Highlanders.

According to media reports from Swaziland Ndodana thwarted most of the Highlanders’ attack and was not at fault for the four goals he conceded.

His rival for an Orlando Pirates’ contract, Ginindza, was fortunate as his team beat the Sea Birds by three goals to nil. Conceding four goals has not dampened Orlando Pirates’ interest in Ndodana.

According to a source close to the South Africa-based outfit, the two players are expected to get a formal invitation from Pirates for trials before the end of the week.

“Actually both players looked good with their performance on Sunday and should get feedback from Pirates soon. It is expected that by the end of the week the two players will be informed about their fate,” source told the Swazi Observer.

In Zimbabwe Ndodana played for Railstars, Lancashire Steel, Shooting Stars and Highlanders. In South Africa he played for Garankuwa United and FC AK in the Mvela League.
