A DEAL to establish an abattoir in Lupane by Kusile Rural District Council and playwright Mr Cont Mhlanga has suffered a still-birth after the latter failed to meet set conditions.

It could not be established when the deadline for the project was set but Kusile chief executive officer Mr Christopher Chuma admitted the 2015 deal was no longer feasible.

Mr Chuma said Mr Mhlanga failed to meet the council’s deadlines forcing the council to engage another partner.

“It (the deal) has suffered a still birth. The person (Mhlanga) we gave a stand for the abattoir has not done anything. In fact we are now in consultation with another investor and we will be meeting him on January 6 (Friday),” said Mr Chuma.

Kusile RDC had raised optimism that the abattoir deal with Mr Mhlanga would kick start the industrialisation process for the natural resource rich local authoritity.

Mr Mhlanga could not be reached for comment yesterday as his cellphone was not reachable. The abattoir deal was targeting value addition and beneficiation where meat products were going to be processed.
