ZIMBABWE international striker Cuthbert Malajila arrived home safely on Wednesday night after fleeing Libya early this week and revealed he will now be monitoring the situation in the North African country from the comfort of his home.
Malajila who is on a six-month loan at Al-Akhdar managed to negotiate a safe passage into neighbouring Egypt after his club facilitated that he travelled by road.
Yesterday the striker was warming into the family groove as relatives visited him at his apartment in the capital.
“It feels good to be back home and right now l am busy with family members who has been visiting me all day,” said Malajila.
The striker who was holed up in his apartment since anti-government protests broke out in the North African country had a nightmarish experience as gunfire rang out in his neighbourhood.
The former Chapungu, Highlanders and Dynamos forward is expected to return to Libya should peace return to the country.
Malajila has a three-year contract with Club Africain and there are chances that he may have to resume his career at the Tunisian club.
He could also be loaned out to another club should a new deal be thrashed out with the Tunisians.
Meanwhile, former Dynamos and CAPS United utility player Tendai Gwata is back in Zimbabwe after helping Mozambican side Liga Muculmana to win the 2010 league championship.
Gwata joined the Maputo based side in December 2009 but enjoyed his greatest moments last season when he won a championship medal.
The striker has now set his sights on rejoining a local club and is currently training with Kiglon.
He said he had decided to leave Mozambican football for now.
“I was playing for Liga Muculumana in the Premier League and we won the championship.
“Football in Mozambique is okay in terms of the remuneration.
“Its actually better than here in Zimbabwe but the standards are much lower.
“Here in Zimbabwe, football is more competitive,” Gwata said.
Gwata hopes to revive his dance with the local Premiership before making his next move.
“At the moment I am training with Kiglon and I hope to play in Zimbabwe before deciding on the next move,” he said.
Mozambique has become one of the preferred destinations for local footballers with former Chapungu and Monomotapa defender Asani Nhongo also playing for Liga Muculumana.
Former Warriors striker Evans Chikwaikwai is turning out for Costa Do Sol who have David Mandigora as coach.
Defender Brighton Tuwaya was on the verge of joining Costa Do Sol before deciding to stay at home and play for Premiership newboys Blue Ribbon Stars.
Former Dynamos midfielder David Shoko had a stint at the Costa Do Sol while Eusebio Manuwere and Liberty Ndadzungira are also plying their trade in Mozambique.
The Mozambican league kicks off at the same time with the Zimbabwean season and has 14 teams with three clubs facing relegation at the end of the season.
