ASPIRING Zifa executive committee member, Bryton Malandule, has rubbished claims that he should have resigned from his post in the southern region before submitting his nomination papers for the December 1, Zifa executive committee elections.

Six candidates will seek to be among the four members of the executive committee in next month’s election after their nomination papers were successfully vetted by the electoral committee chaired by top legal fundi, Vusi Vuma.

“There is no clause in the nomination form that calls for aspiring candidates to first resign from their posts in the lower structures, its totally nonsensical for people therefore to say I should have resigned from the Southern Region where I am a board member. One only steps down if he wins and if I do, which I am confident will happen, I will duly tender my resignation in the Southern Region,” said the former referee, a qualified financial fundi.

He said in any event, even if the nomination form calls for aspiring candidates to resign, he does not have to inform the whole world that he has done so but just formally writes to the Zifa electoral committee secretary.

“We follow procedures, its as simple as that,” said Malandule who will fight for the national executive posts alongside incumbent, Phillimon Machana, marketing guru Chamu Chiwanza, public relations practitioners Sugar Chagonda and Barry Manandi as well as Central Region boss, Stanley Chapeta.

If he and Chapeta get the nod and become national executive committee members, by elections will be conducted in the Southern and Central regions to fill up the vacant posts.

The electoral committee last Friday disqualified four prospective candidates for among other reasons failing to meet integrity tests.

According to the Fifa electoral code, member association elections must be run in line with the respective association’s statutes and regulations and no external interference whatsoever is allowed.
