A BULAWAYO man yesterday said he would only pay maintenance on condition that every expense is accounted for.
Katazo Sibanda who was dragged to court by his sister-in-law, Nozwelo Ncube who is demanding $203 maintenance for his two minor children, said he could only pay the money if he was assured that every cent was going to be accounted for.

Sibanda, a teacher said he wanted Ncube to provide receipts for everything she bought using the money.

“My wife left for South Africa in 2008. I was living with my children until Nozwelo took them in 2012. I have to be certain that all my money is used accordingly. As such, Nozwelo should give me receipts of all expenses every month,” he said.

He also told the magistrate Marilyn Mutshina that he could only afford $50 as he has other expenses.

“I cannot afford to pay $203 because I earn $430 a month. I also have to pay $250 in school fees for my first-born son. As a result I can only afford $50 and all of it must be accounted for,” he said.

Mutshina castigated Sibanda for not taking his children’s welfare seriously.

“You can’t come to court and start making such demands. You have not been taking care of your children for over a year but that does not seem to bother you.

“These are your children not mine. You want to keep an account for $50. What is $50 compared to the well-being of your children?” asked Mutshina before ordering Sibanda to pay $80 a month towards the maintenance of his children
