Winston Beechy, of 12 Dawson Road in Tegela and Ms Sinqobile Mpofu, were customarily married and were now living separately after their marriage irreparably broke down.
The couple had two minor children together who remained staying with Ms Mpofu at their matrimonial home as Beechy moved out to his mother’s place of residence in Sauerstown.
When Ms Mpofu arrived at her mother-in-law’s place, Beechy was not amused and he started assaulting her.

Beechy was convicted of physical abuse when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tawanda Muchemwa yesterday.
He showed remorse and apologised to his wife and the court.

He was cautioned and discharged.
Mr Masimba Saruwaka, for the State, told the court that the incident occurred on 25 November last year in Sauerstown.

Ms Mpofu left her place of residence to follow Beechy to his mother’s place with the intention of talking to him to find out whether he was serious about staying with his mother since they had separated.
When she arrived at the house, the mother-in-law was not around and Beechy, who was alone at home, started assaulting her with fists several times on the face.

He also went on to grab her by the neck and choked her with his                     hands.
Beechy’s mother, who arrived while he was still assaulting her, restrained the two.

Appearing before the same court, two other men were not formally charged and were remanded to 23 January on $30 bail each when they separately appeared for physically abusing their wives.
Maxwell Dube (40), of 2230 Mahatshula suburb, allegedly severely assaulted his wife, Mrs Thandiwe Dube at about midnight on Saturday.

It is alleged that all hell broke loose when Mrs Dube woke up in the                middle of the night and found her husband kneeling next to the bed                praying.
When she asked him what he was doing, he allegedly became angry and stopped praying to assault her for asking.

He allegedly held her by the left elbow and twisted it while at the same time twisting her neck.

Luka Ndlovu (62), of 28 Harewood Road in Woodlands, also allegedly assaulted his wife Mrs Caroline Ndlovu (60) at about 9pm for questioning his decision to throw their daughter out of the family house over an undisclosed matter. Ndlovu allegedly hit his wife with a cup and attempted to stab her with a kitchen knife but did not succeed as she fled together with their children.
Dube and Ndlovu were not formally charged and will next appear in court on 23 January.
