MOROKA Swallows chief executive officer Leon Prins is delighted about the return of former Warriors wing defender Gilbert Mapemba to the team from injury. He said Mapemba has been a pillar of strength to the team for several seasons. Prins said there is jubilation, players and technical staff  have been relieved to see their teammate doing tricks during practice sessions.

He described Mapemba as an army commander whose leadership qualities at the team are essential and of high quality. The player is even stronger than before, he is a no-nonsense defender.

“Gilbert Mapemba has been training with the team for several weeks and believe me he will be playing official games in three weeks time. At the moment he is strong, runs fast and he does all the exercises that are required.

“We really missed him, his space is still there. He is tough and a marvel to watch when fighting for the ball with other players.”
He is one of the best readers of the game in the South African Absa Premier League.

Prins said Mapemba would reclaim his position in the national team. Mapemba is the only Zimbabwean player at the Dube Birds after his countryman Oscar Machapa was offloaded last season.

Machapa is a league championship winner with Dynamos.
Several Zimbabweans – Evans Gwekwerere, Alois Ngwerume, the late Onias Musana, Douglas Maneto, Max Tshuma, Shadreck Ngwenya and Machapa have played for Swallows.
