TAPS ran dry in Masvingo yesterday due to maintenance works at Bushmead Water Treatment plant with council saying water supplies will only be restored tomorrow.

In a statement, Masvingo Town Clerk Mr Adolf Gusha said residents should store enough water in containers until the situation improves.

“The City Of Masvingo writes to advise residents that there will be a planned shutdown of Bushmead Water Treatment Works on the following dates to facilitate maintenance. 1) Tuesday, July 25, 2017. 11). Wednesday, July, 26, 2017,” reads the statement.

“Residents are therefore urged to store enough water to meet their needs for the period.

“The city wishes to apologise for the inconveniences resulting from these critical works.”

Meanwhile, Mayor Councillor Hubert Fidze has   also apologised to residents of Runyararo West Suburb for fires caused by some vagrants at council’s dumpsite which is affecting people with houses  nearby.

“It is unfortunate that we are still struggling to get a new landfill. We are struggling to get some land for a new landfill. We, however, encourage residents to report these fires caused by vagrants so that our fire fighters can put them out,” said Clr Fidze.

He said council hopes to get land for a new dumpsite soon.

“It needs a common voice to push for a new dumpsite which is wanted as soon as possible.

“Please bear with us as we struggle to have this problem solved once and for all,” Clr Fidze said.
