A member of the Advocate Nelson Chamisa led MDC-T has been found dead in the outskirts of Gwanda in a suspected case of murder.

Mr Masotsha Billiat Sibanda was found dead at Loreto Forest on Wednesday afternoon after attending a rally in the area.

Gwanda police spokesperson, Inspector Philisani Mkwananzi confirmed the incident saying investigations were being conducted.

“We appeal to anyone who might have information that could help our investigations to approach any police station near them,” said Insp Mkwananzi.

According to sources close to Mr Sibanda they claimed they suspected that his murder was politically motivated.

“He was a very active member of the opposition, boldly declaring his allegiance to Adv Chamisa, in the afternoon he had been very vocal at the rally, some of us suspect a political hand in his murder,” said one Ms Florence Mlilo.

Mr Sibanda is survived by his wife, Ms Slyvia Nleya, who he was traditionally married with, one daughter, Ms Sifiso Sibanda and a grand daughter Miss Nonhlanhla Ruth Sibanda.

The murder comes just a couple of days before the country holds it’s historic Harmonised elections, with various observer missions – inclusive of the  European  Union and the Commonwealth- already in the country to observe the elections to be held on June 30.
