KWEKWE-BASED cricket franchise side Midwest Rhinos are confident of doing well in their Under-14, Under-17 and Under-19s who invade Harare for the inter-franchise tournament which runs from Monday to Wednesday next week. The tournament will be held at St George’s and Eaglesvale High schools.

The inter-franchise tournament has been dominated by Mashonaland Eagles since the inception of franchise cricket in 2010.
Midwest Rhinos area manager Admire Marodza said his side will end Eagles’ dominance.

The teams are pregnant with talent which if nurtured properly will form the core of future national teams.

“As (Midwest) Rhinos we are confident of coming back with top honours this time around. We are prepared for competition from Mashonaland Eagles who on paper are the better side because they have many schools in their franchise which play cricket unlike us and other provinces who have a handful of schools taking part in the sport.

The Midlands and Mashonaland West franchise side has over the years been sending its players overseas for attachments and in 2012 the trio of Edward Rainsford, Malcolm Waller and Steve Marillier secured foreign contracts.
