HIGHLANDERS’ striker and 2015 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Top Goal Scorer Knox Mutizwa could have played his last game for the Bulawayo giants yesterday against Chicken Inn following news that he impressed South African Premiership side Bidvest Wits.

The 22-year-old Mutizwa, who scored 14 league goals from 18 starts, returned from South Africa on Friday in time for yesterday’s game and even though he didn’t score, he kept Chicken Inn’s defenders on their toes.

He is likely to sign his contract with the South African club any time this week once Bosso and Wits agree on a transfer fee.

“I’m definitely signing for Wits as they’ve indicated that they’re interested in my services. What I don’t know is whether they’ll want me to join them during the January transfer window or in July for the new season,” said Mutizwa.

The striker, who scored the winning goal in the semi-final of the Easycall Cup against Dynamos last week, was yesterday given the honour of wearing the captain’s armband against the Gamecocks.

Mjomani or Njome as Mutizwa is affectionately known, wished Bosso the best in 2016.

“I’m proud that my contribution helped the team win a major cup. We really wanted this victory and everyone worked for it. What was key was team work and the strategy to get behind the ball. I leave the club a happy man knowing that they’ve a trophy in their cabinet and I wish them well next season,” said Mutizwa.

His agent Gibson Mahachi, who was part of the crowd that watched the Easycall Cup final, said the deal is likely to be concluded tomorrow.

“What I know is that Knox made the grade and they (Wits) have indicated that they shall be engaging Highlanders for his services. All things being equal, I think the deal will be concluded by Tuesday,” said Mahachi.

At Wits, Mutizwa will join countryman Onismor Bhasera.

Highlanders’ chief executive officer Ndumiso Gumede said the club is yet to decide on the value of the player.

“Knox impressed and his new employers have given us the ball. The club’s management will meet tomorrow to discuss on the figures, otherwise we wish the young man all the best at his new club,” said Gumede.
