ALL is set for the Netball Super League playoffs to be held in Harare at Stodart Hall tomorrow.
An estimated 25 teams will battle it out for the four promotional slots which have been reserved to be part of netball’s topflight league this season.

Save for Masvingo which did not confirm participation, all the other provinces have seconded representatives for the playoffs.

Bulawayo will be represented by ZRP Bulawayo while Zesa Queens and Imbizo Queens were yet to confirm their participation at the time of going to Press. Blanket Mine will represent Matabeleland South while Mwachepa and Lusula both from Binga will be Matabeleland North representatives.

Jena Mine Queens, ZRP Buchwa and Mnene High School from the Midlands will complete the Southern Region representatives.

Zimbabwe Netball Association (ZNA) president, Leticia Chipandu said they hope to see more teams from the southern region making it into the super league so that there can be two leagues in the future.

“As the league leadership, our dream is to see more teams from the southern region because at the moment the league has many teams from the northern region. If we get many teams from the region then in the future we will create two super leagues with one from the southern region and the other one from the northern region.

“This should be a gradual process because we do not want to compromise the quality of the league. Such a move will also drastically reduce travelling and other related costs since as the league we’re running without sponsorship,” she said.

Chipandu could not rule out the possibility of increasing the number of teams in the league saying this will be done on merit as they want the league to remain competitive.

A pre-season tournament will be held at the same venue on February 21 before the league gets down to serious business on the first week of March.
