LEGENDARY basketball player Ernie Noble has been nominated for the position of president of the Bulawayo Basketball Association. The elections are set for Thursday at a venue to be announced. Noble is competing for the BBA’s top post with Opportunity Moyo of Giants. Outgoing secretary-general Joe Mujuru said all positions are up for grabs.

Submissions of nominations closed on Wednesday night.

“Our annual general meeting is going to be held on Thursday 11 July and we should be sending out emails to all stakeholders informing them about the venue. Apart from the reports, we are going to have our elections on that day,” Mujuru said.

The outgoing BBA executive is made up of president Daniel Mombeshora, Mujuru, Emmanuel Mukandi who heads the technical commission portfolio, competitions head Ndumiso Mabhena, women and youth development portfolio Sincengile Mzemba, Beliah Zibowa and Princess Ngwenya.

Noble is the outgoing athletes’ commission president.

Mombeshora, Mujuru and Mzemba are not seeking re-election.

“I believe we have done our part and it is time to hand the baton to other people. We will always be there in sport and everyone has pledged to continue supporting BBA so that basketball in Bulawayo improves,” said Mombeshora.

National women’s team coach Sikhumbuzo “SV” Ndlovu of Lakers has been nominated with Highlanders’ Steward Woods for the secretary-general’s position.

Four people – Mukandi, Mabhena, Sinda Mono and Mxolisi Ndlovu have been chosen for the technical commission’s seat with Mayibongwe Ncube and Handsome Ncube set to battle it out with Mabhena for the competitions’ portfolio.

Noleen Moyo of Giants, Highlanders’ Pretty Tinarwo and unattached Charmaine Chirinda going for the women and development office while the promotions and marketing position is being competed for by Ngwenya, Zibowa, Peter Rensburg, Ndlovu and Durell Adams.

According to Mujuru, Ancillia Chivero got the most nominations for the athletes’ commission president and is battling it out with Ndlovu, Thokozani Sigola and Luckmore Masuku.

Southern Mavericks, Highlanders, Giants, Kings, Oilers, Stars, ZB Titans and Lakers each have a single vote with the National Association of Primary School Heads and National Association of Secondary Heads also having a single vote.
