Nyikadzino on misfiring strikers

CHAPUNGU coach John Nyikadzino has expressed concern over his side’s attack which has been misfiring since the season started.
The Airforce of Zimbabwe side is yet to score in 180 minutes of football after suffering a 1-0 defeat to champions Dynamos at Ascot Stadium at the weekend.

“Waru Waru” had earlier been held to a goalless draw by How Mine in the league’s opening weekend.

“Definitely, I’m concerned about how our strikers are failing to convert their chances because if you look at the How Mine game it ended in a goalless draw and again we failed to score against Dynamos.

“This is one area we should be working on because games are won by goals,” he said.

In the run-up to the season, the experienced gaffer axed some of the club’s strikers who did duty for the club last season, former captain Callisto Maheya, Brighton Mugoni, Talent Mwale and Victor Bangira.

Nyikadzino brought into the fold former Dynamos and Shabanie Mine forward Allan Tavarwisa, winger Nhlanhla Ncube and Tongai Magwendere.

He hopes they will soon find their scoring touch.

After going for 14 games without defeat at the side’s fortress Ascot Stadium last season which was brought to a halt by now-relegated Bantu Rovers who beat the Gweru based side 3-2, Nyikadzino still believes that the team’s home ground can still be turned into a dungeon for visiting teams.

Said Nyikadzino: “The defeat has no psychological effect on the team. We can lose the first game at home and then go all the way to win all our home matches and that is part of football.

“We are still very much into our top eight quest this season and the loss was just a minor setback.”
