All officials and athletes at the African Union Sports Council Region 5 (AUSC) Under-20 Games in December will be required to produce Covid-19 vaccination certificates to be allowed entry into Lesotho.

This is in line with the region’s position to hold the Games in strict adherence to Covid-19 health protocols and guidelines.

The position was adopted at an AUSC Region 5 Troika ministerial meeting held in Lesotho last week.

“It was agreed that all officials and athletes must produce their Covid-19 vaccination certificates before being allowed to enter Lesotho,” said AUSC Region 5 chief executive officer Stanley Mutoya.

The Games will be held in Maseru from December 3-12 and already 2 017 athletes and officials have been accredited ahead of Friday’s teams’ draw.

Twelve member states, including Seychelles and Mauritius, have confirmed their participation in the Games that were postponed in 2020 following an outbreak of Covid-19 worldwide.
