Oxyz spearheads cleanup campaign Oxyz

IF “the more, the merrier” was a person, then Nkulumane rapper Oxyz (real name Othiniel Mpofu) and his friends were going to claim that name.

This comes at the backdrop of him championing a clean-up campaign earlier this month in an endeavour that showed that artistes do not collaborate for songs only, but also come together for civic duty.

Through such a collaborative effort, the artistes, models and other youths from Nkulumane and nearby neighbourhoods made sure that the streets are spick and span.

Places that were cleaned up included Sekusile, Bullet and Munyoro.

Oxyz, a Voice2Rep 2020 finalist and a Prince Claus 2021 recipient told Chronicle Showbiz of the importance of doing such a campaign.

“The purpose of this campaign was to keep our neighbourhood clean as well as create a good reputation as creative youths. Most people in our community view people in the arts as drug addicts and prostitutes so we wanted to change the way our community viewed us.

“There’s need for us to portray ourselves in a way that will reflect a civil community where persons of influence take it upon themselves to be the change that they want to see in the world.”

Other artistes and creatives who were part of the cleanup campaign were Kzee, Laaiq Yung, Ntando, Miss Winter and Miss Cowdray Park winner, Primrose and also MacFellOut who provided the troops with trash bags. – @eMKlass_49
