Sylvester Dube (28), of Garanyemba village and Sherpard Dube (20), of Selonga village, pleaded not guilty to robbery charges, but were convicted by Beitbridge resident magistrate, Ms Gloria Takundwa.

Sylvester and Sherpard had six months of their sentences conditionally suspended for five years.

Another month was further suspended on condition that the pair restitutes the stolen money to the complainants on or before 31 January through the Clerk of the Criminal Court.

The prosecutor, Mr Foster Abeki, said on 1 September last year at about 6.30pm, the two men teamed up and went to Nottingham Estate.

On arrival, the court heard that they spotted one of the complainants in the company of her cousin while heading to a water point to fetch water.

They confronted the two women during which they pulled out knives and demanded cash from the complainants.

The complainants refused, prompting the two men to grab the two women before searching them and taking R1 200 and fled. Sylvester and Sherpard later confronted a couple employed at the same farm, which was walking home and they robbed the pair of R4 800 and a cellphone.

A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the two men.
