PRESIDENT Mnangagwa is committed to uplift the lives of Zimbabweans who have endured two decades of hardships due to international isolation, a senior official has said.

This was said by Zanu-PF Politburo member and party national spokesperson, Cde Simon Khaya Moyo, at Sanzukwi Secondary School Speech and Prize Giving Day in his rural home in Plumtree yesterday.

Cde Khaya Moyo, who is also the Senator for Bulilima and Mangwe, said the pride of Zimbabweans would be restored soon, courtesy of President Mnangagwa’s efforts.

“The economy of this country was going down every day, but the new dispensation ushered in by President ED was determined to uplift the country,” he said. “We were isolated for 20 years and the world did not want to see Zimbabweans and we were also ashamed to tell our identity. This is a thing of the past. You should be proud now to tell people that you are a Zimbabwean, not to say I come from Sadc. Is there a country called Sadc?

Cde Khaya Moyo urged pupils to take their studies seriously and develop the country.

“An illiterate country is a burden to humanity and I want to encourage you to take your studies seriously,” he said. “Noone was born with a certificate. We are born for a purpose and among you are future presidents, engineers, lawyers, teachers and all different types of professionals. Do not ask for cigarettes from teachers because you will not go anywhere.”

Sanzukwi Secondary School head Mr Khumbulani Sibanda encouraged pupils to take up practical subjects so that they created their own employment.

“Many school leavers are seated at home, but they are possessing good results, because there is no employment,” he said. “However, if they had done practical subjects they could create own jobs and also create employment for others.”
