WHILE the nation continues to enjoy hard-fought independence that brought about the freedom being cherished to this day, compassion for the real human cost suffered by those who took up arms must be prioritised.

In a solidarity message to Zanu-PF First Secretary, President Mnangagwa ahead of the inaugural War Veterans League National Conference that kicked off in Harare yesterday, Varakashi4ED, in a statement, said they were in total solidarity with the liberation war heroes and heroines who have continued to selflessly serve Zimbabwe by “crawling so that the nation’s sons and daughters could today walk.”

“Varakashi4ED stands in solidarity with our Liberation War Veterans, the ongoing National Liberation War Veterans League Conference and we are very grateful for the President ED Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF led Second Republic Government.

“Varakashi4ED are thinking in gratitude and solidarity with those liberation war heroes who have continued to selflessly serve Zimbabwe. We stand in solidarity with our liberation War Veterans who crawled so that we can walk today,” read the statement.

Varakashi4ED said they support the Conference because they understand sacrifices and continued perseverance of freedom fighters in the face of neo-colonialism.

“We express solidarity with all our liberation War Veterans including President ED Mnangagwa, a true war veteran who has continued to make Zimbabwe a better place by continuing building our country brick by brick, leaving no one and no place behind. Even while we enjoy the freedom we have today, we must prioritise compassion for the real human cost of our independence which our veterans know too well. We support them wholeheartedly as we thank them for their true service to our country,” reads the statement.

The organisation thanked liberation War Veterans and President Mnangagwa for standing with and for the country.

They said they appreciated the patriotism, unity of purpose and comradeship which has culminated in the gathering of all Patriotic Liberation War Veterans in a National Liberation War Veterans League Conference.

“Now more than ever, we need more of your exemplary servant servitude to put Zimbabwe first before our personal interests. You are our revolutionary icons and beacons whose footprints Zimbabwe will follow to protect, preserve, and defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“We are pleased and grateful that through the National Liberation War Veterans Conference and the creation of a Liberation War Veterans League, the ethos, aims and objectives of our liberation war, our heroes and heroines the war veterans fought for, are being upheld and fulfilled by ED led Second Republic, building Zimbabwe brick by brick towards a sustainable #Vision2030,” read the statement.

The conference, set to be officially opened by President Mnangagwa, ran from yesterday and is set to end today with the election of a national executive committee.
