Sibling feud intensifies over gold-rich inherited Matobo farm, safety concerns mount Nompilo Tshuma

Tensions have reached boiling point between siblings Herbert Khumbulani Tshuma and Nompilo Tshuma, who inherited various assets following the passing of their father, Acme Tshuma. While initially harmonious, the situation took a dramatic turn when illegal gold miners invaded Nompilo’s inherited farm in Lubangwe Village, Matobo District, Matabeleland South.

Herbert is now embroiled in a bitter battle, attempting to evict and disinherit his sister to exploit the lucrative gold deposits on the farm. This feud has escalated to the point where Herbert allegedly leverages his connections within the ruling party Zanu-PF to force Nompilo out, creating grave safety concerns for her.

The inheritance seemed to be peacefully divided, with Herbert receiving a house in Pumula in Bulawayo and Nompilo inheriting the farm. However, the discovery of gold deposits on the farm attracted illegal miners in 2021, igniting a chain of events leading to the current volatile situation. With aspirations of profiting from gold mining, Herbert has taken drastic measures to secure sole control over the land.

In an alarming turn of events, Herbert and his associates are said to have set fire to a house situated within the farm, intensifying the campaign to force Nompilo off the property. These actions have raised serious concerns regarding the safety and well-being of Nompilo, as she fears for her life in light of the escalating conflict.

Nompilo Tshuma, deeply worried about the situation, expressed her distress, stating, “I can’t understand why my brother would resort to such extreme measures. Our father’s will clearly states that if anything happens to me, the farm should pass on to my children. I fear for our safety, and I implore the authorities to intervene before it’s too late.”

As the dispute rages on, the community and legal experts are urging both parties to seek a peaceful resolution through dialogue. The involvement of influential individuals associated with the ruling party raises concerns about fairness, justice, and the potential for abuse of power.

Efforts are underway to mediate the conflict and find an equitable solution that upholds the rights and safety of all parties involved. Authorities have been called upon to investigate the alleged arson attack and ensure the preservation of law and order. It is imperative that the legal process remains impartial and safeguards the best interests of all stakeholders.

This troubling scenario serves as a reminder of the inherent risks and complexities that can arise when valuable assets are involved in family inheritances. It underscores the importance of open communication, respect for legal frameworks, and fair distribution of assets to prevent familial rifts and protect the well-being of all family members.

As the situation unfolds, there is a collective hope that a peaceful resolution can be reached promptly, allowing both Herbert Khumbulani Tshuma and Nompilo Tshuma to honor their late father’s legacy without sacrificing their familial bonds. The investigation into the safety concerns and illegal activities at the farm will be instrumental in achieving meaningful resolution and justice for all parties involved.
