Six months sentence for 5 chickens thief

A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Bulawayo has been sentenced to six months in prison for stealing five broilers worth $300.

Roland Furayi of Old Luveve suburb stole the chickens from Ms Angeline Kamoyo and sold them at a shopping centre in the suburb.

Furayi pleaded guilty to stock theft charges when he appeared before Western Commonage Magistrate, Ms Tancy Dube. He was sentenced to six months in prison.

Two months were suspended on condition of good behaviour and three months were suspended on condition that Furayi performs 105 hours of community service.

The remaining one month was suspended on condition that he restitutes Ms Kamoyo $120 on or before November 30.

Prosecuting, Mr Chief Mateve said on October 29 this year, Furayi went to Ms Kamoyo’s house and stole the broilers which were in the fowl run.

He sold them at Chigumira Shopping Centre in the same suburb.The matter was reported to the police leading to Furayi’s arrest.

Only two broilers were recovered.Last month, a man from Victoria Falls was sentenced to four years in jail for stealing four chickens and other valuables from a priest’s house in Chinotimba suburb.—@zinyuke98
