DENDERA supremo Sulumani Chimbetu will headline Private Lounge’s celebration of their Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Expo accolade. Last week, the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority endorsed Private Lounge as one of the best entertainment joints in the country when they honoured them with a special recognition award at the Sanganai/Hlanganani Tourism Expo.

On July 9 as a way to celebrate, the Batai Munhu hit-maker and his band, Orchestra Dendera Kings, will set the stage alight at the Cecil Hotel Conference room.

Private Lounge proprietor Biggie Chinoperekwei said they were looking forward to celebrate the accolade with Sulu as the main act.

“We’re excited to have Sulumani Chimbetu performing at our celebrations. We hear that he has an upcoming album and we’re eagerly waiting for him to sample some of his tracks at the celebrations,” said Chinoperekwei.

He said the strip club and cocktail bar would remain open for business.

“We want the Conference room to be the permanent venue for live performances in the near future. Besides Sulu’s show, this week we have another artiste, Njabulo “Igwe” Nyoni who is launching his album in the Conference Room,” said Chinoperekwei.

“We’re a one stop entertainment shop as we’ve a place for clubbers, then those who want to watch strippers, the cocktail bar is for those who want a relaxed atmosphere and then the conference room will be for live bands.”

Meanwhile, the Democratic Republic of Congo based chef; Igwe, introduced members of the media to his six track album Umuntu Uyingozi, at a small cocktail on Tuesday evening.

Speaking ahead of his show on Saturday, Igwe said the aim of his album was to appeal to every Zimbabwean through his music.

“I want to break the stereotype that artistes from Matabeleland can’t break into the national market. I speak 11 languages and my album has songs in Shona, Ndebele and Nyanja,” said Igwe.

The album is a mixture of Rhumba and Kanindo, with songs such as Ziyenzeka izinto, Mwanawanga, Mwari wekudenga, Shona malanga, Bayakhulum’ abantu and Varume chi chanetsa.

In his songs, Igwe is a social commentator who encourages fans to look to the future with optimism and pray to God when things get tough.
