Teenager drowns in swimming pool

AN 18-year-old Gweru man drowned after jumping into a Gweru City Council run swimming pool over the weekend.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the death of Tatenda Kuvarega.

He said Kuvarega who was not acquainted with swimming skills, dived into the pool where he drowned.

“The police are investigating a sudden death case where an 18-year old drowned in a swimming pool on Saturday at about 1530hrs and at Gweru City Council Swimming Pool just outside Gweru Central Business District,” said Insp Mahoko.

“Kuvarega of Light Industrial site, Gweru jumped into the pool intending to swim. He drowned at once as he did not know how to swim,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said members of the public jumped into the pool in an attempt to rescue him but to no avail.
