Topping the charts this week is the Afro-tech trio, Rebellious Suhnz with the track Ngifuna Wena. Below is a brief profile.

Q. Please tell us about Rebellious Suhnz.

A. We are a House music trio/band from Bulawayo. The group consists of George Dube a.k.a George Verdaman, Gladwell Ncube a.k.a Swazii ë King, and Emmanuel Jonasi a.k.a DJ Channel. We all grew up in the same neighbourhood (Nketa 7) and attended the same church (Catholic). As musicians, we were all signed under the same former record label, “Defined House”.

Q. What inspired you guys to venture into music?

A. From when we were young, we were passionate about music. As we grew up, we decided to start making our own music.

Q. The song Ngifuna Wena, who did you work with and what’s the inspiration behind the song?

A. We worked with Celine Sky, a local artiste and Mafesto Musique from South Africa.

Q. Which music genre do you specialise in?

A. Afro-Tech.

Q. How many albums, EPs have you released thus far?

A. We have two EPs – Voyage (that we did with Eighty Nine Musique) and Ng’funa Wena (with Mafesto Musique).

Q. As DJs, how do you balance producing music and deejaying?

A. It’s grown to be a hobby really.

Q. Are there any projects that you are working on?

A. We have at least two singles coming out at the end of June and an EP.

Q. How do you manage to maintain your relationship as a group?

A. By putting God first always, prioritising objectives, setting deadlines to execute the objectives and most of all, prayer.

Q. Where have you performed as a group?

A. Matobo Gin Festival, Afro-House Masquerade, Garden of House, Fun in the Sun Festival, Dejavu Hang Out, Sir Trill All Black Party and at The Balcony.

Q. What makes you different from other groups?

A. We fuse the African Djembe with Afro Tech Music. What makes us different is the unique diversity of skills that we individually have to offer and varying musical backgrounds.

Q. Where do you see yourselves in five years?

A. Having achieved an international network and collaborations as well as creating influential music.
