Top cops lead Mujuru probe Cde Mujuru

Harare Bureau
Police have set up a team of senior detectives to search companies linked to former Vice President Joice Mujuru as investigations into allegations of corruption and abuse of office levelled against her intensify.

Last Thursday police were issued with warrants by the courts to search Cde Mujuru and companies linked to her after she was fired from government for behaviour inconsistent with the discharge of her duties.

Sources close to the investigations yesterday revealed that the probe team is led by Chief Superintendent Luckson Mukazhi.

“The team has visited some of the companies to carry out some investigations on the matter. They’re yet to present their findings to police officers at Police General Headquarters about their investigations,” said a police source yesterday.

By last night the police sources couldn’t give details as that could jeopardise the ongoing investigations.

Last week, police made a court application to look into Cde Mujuru’s companies and her other assets before provincial magistrate Vakai Chikwekwe in his chambers and the request was granted.

The granting of the search warrants followed Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri’s warning that they would investigate all cases of corruption without fear or favour as directed by President Mugabe.

Speaking during the just-ended Zanu-PF National People’s Congress, President Mugabe slammed former VP Mujuru and her cabal for engaging in acts of corruption and abuse of office.

President Mugabe warned that all those involved in corruption would be prosecuted regardless of their positions in society or government.

Since then, 16 government officials have been fired.

Our Harare Bureau has it on good authority that a number of officials who worked with the ex-VP have been put on forced leave as investigations into her illegal deals gather momentum.

Cde Mujuru is accused of extorting shareholding in companies, demanding 10 percent bribes, illicit dealings in diamonds and gold, attempting to defeat the course of justice, extorting investors, undermining the authority of President Mugabe and seeking to depose the President through unconstitutional means.

First Lady Cde Grace Mugabe exposed VP Mujuru during her meet the people rallies in October when she brought to the fore her secret deals that smacked of corruption.
