PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has appointed Mr Ndavaningi (Nick) Mangwana as the new Permanent Secretary for Information, Media and Broadcasting Services.

Mr Mangwana takes over from the long-serving Mr George Charamba, who was recently reassigned to be the Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (Presidential Communications).

In a statement yesterday, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda said the appointment is with immediate effect.

“His Excellency the President has, in terms of Section 205 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.20) Act 2013, appointed Mr Ndavaningi (Nick) Mangwana as Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services. The appointment is with immediate effect,” said Dr Sibanda.

Mr Mangwana has qualifications in corporate governance, accounting, law and health services.

He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators and a political analyst of African politics.

Mr Mangwana has lived and worked in the United Kingdom where he was a regular in the international media articulating Zimbabwe’s narratives to the world.

He is popular for his column View from the Diaspora which is published in The Herald and also writes for the People’s Voice. Mr Mangwana also contributes to the New African magazine, a London-based publication which provides unparalleled insights and analysis of African politics and economics.

He brings vast technical competence and experience in the contemporary media to the new task.

The latest appointment comes barely two weeks after President Mnangagwa selected new permanent secretaries, reassigned others and retired some as his Government takes the Second Republic into motion. The names of the retired were Mr Ngoni Masoka, Partson Mbiriri, Ambassador Joey Bimha, Ambassador Boniface Chidyausiku, Mr Tobaiwa Mudede, Ambassador Kelebert Nkomani, Mrs Ethel Mlalazi, Mrs Anne Knuth and Mr Valentine Vera. — @mashnets
