and volley on May 21.
The national league is set to be the elite league and will attract some of the top clubs from across the country.
Already 10-men-teams are expected to compete in the national league and this year marks the second time, in as many years, that ZVA are entertaining the idea of running a national league. ZVA secretary Ringisai Mapondera said they were hoping to start the fixtures on May 21 but this is subject to all the teams paying up affiliation and registration fees.
“Our clubs are hoping to start the games on May 21 but this will only be possible if they have registered,” said Mapondera.
The clubs are expected to pay US$500 as affiliation fees and a further US$100 as registration fees for the year.
“In addition each club should pay US$5 per player and we also use this fee to create a database of register with the ZVA.
“What will happen is that teams will play the fees and indicate if they want to play in the national league or not.
“We will then channel the money to the running of the national league.
“But if the club opts to play in the provincial league, ZVA will also direct the money paid by the club to the respective province.
“The move is also aimed at encouraging provinces to open up bank accounts,” said Mapondera.
Black Rhinos, Jewels, KOBA, Railstars, NABA, Stanbic Thunder, Hawks, Dolphins and CAAZ are tipped to revive the national league. Efforts by the ZVA to run the national league ran into troubles last year in September when they were forced to abandon the project.
