Warriors drop 5 places on Fifa rankings

Innocent Kurira, Sports Reporter
THE Warriors have dropped five places on the latest Fifa World Rankings released on Thursday.

From their last two encounters the Warriors lost 10.97 points and dropped five places down to number 113 in the world and two spots to number 28 in Africa. This is a result of their poor show in the World Cup Qualifiers early this month.

The Warriors drew nil all with South Africa before they were stunned 1-0 in Ethiopia. The outcomes resulted in the firing of Croatian coach Zdravko Logarusic who in his stint with the Warriors only managed a single victory in 14 games. The effects of Loga’s incompetence continue to be felt as the nation drops deeper on the world standings.

The Warriors next assignment will be the back-to-back World Cup qualifiers against Ghana coming up in the next three weeks.

Zimbabwe under new coach Norman Mapeza will be hoping to improve on their performance and start winning. Mapeza’s immediate task will be to try and restore the team’s shattered confidence while also salvaging what is left of Zimbabwe’s chances in the World Cup campaign.

Mapeza agreed a short-term three-month deal with Zifa, which will see him take charge of the three remaining World Cup qualifiers.

Meanwhile, Senegal remain the highest-ranked team in Africa while Belgium retained top spot in the world.
