Zanu-PF candidate for Bulawayo’s Ward 20 Cde Sandra Ndebele-Sibindi yesterday launched a youth inspired spruce up campaign of the Bulawayo Provincial Heroes Acre.

The campaign, Cde Ndebele-Sibindi said, was to conscientise youths about their past and future as well as to drive Vision 2030 that will see the country attaining an upper middle income economy status.

“We did not fall from any tree and our history starts from here. Our heroes need to be remembered. We are here to clean up our hero’s acre because no one else will,” said Cde Ndebele-Sibindi.

She said this was also a drive to undo the growing drug and alcohol scourge bedevilling the country.

“I am an aspiring candidate and I want to inspire my peers and those behind me. We all need to know our history and our future. No one will do this and we have to do this for our heroes.

“We are doing this for our constituency and the city. Let us be united in building our lives. We may not get along on many issues but as Zimbabweans we are one and we will conquer. No one will fix our country besides us and it all starts with recognising our heroes,” said Cde Ndebele-Sibindi.

She said under her constituency, a borehole would soon be drilled while Wi-Fi would be installed at the heroes acre to ensure that knowledge is spread and preserved.

“This is our legacy and let no one take advantage of it. We are Zimbabweans. We are human beings and we have ourselves to rebuild our nation. Let us not forget who we are and where we are going. Ilizwe lakhiwa ngabanikazi balo as the President always says,” said Cde Ndebele-Sibindi.

The assistant curator of archaeology responsible for historic buildings and Matobo World Heritage Site manager Mr Stanley Nyamagodo said he was appreciative on behalf of the museums and heritage organisations as this also showed that the youth appreciated their history.

“This means a lot of the sites are being looked after by the rightful custodians and this shows just how united we are as a people. Let us all come together and conserve our heritage and protect our history,” he said.
