A WOMAN from Bulawayo has been sentenced to 14 months in prison after she broke into a house in Nkulumane suburb and stole a four-plate stove and a refrigerator with a combined value of US$1 000.

Privilege Musizi (29) from Nkulumane suburb broke into Ms Samantha Dhliwayo’s home at night and stole the property.

Musizi pleaded not guilty to unlawful entry and theft before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Stephen Ndlovu, but was convicted due to overwhelming evidence.

The magistrate sentenced her to 14 months in prison and suspended six months. Eight months were further suspended on condition that Musizi performs community service at Nkulumane Police Station.

For the State, Ms Patience Sibanda said on October 18 this year at around 7PM, Musizi stole Ms Dhliwayo’s property valued at US$1 000.

She said Musizi took advantage of two minors who were in the house.

Ms Dhliwayo said Musizi tricked her two children to go play outside while she remained stealing the property.

“I left my two children to look after the house and went to town. When I returned, I found my stove and fridge missing. I asked my children and they told me that the accused person, who was in company of two men, instructed them to go play outside while she remained in the house,” said Ms Dhliwayo.

Musizi was arrested while she was trying to sell the stolen property in Nkulumane suburb after an anonymous tip-off. @sharonbuwe
