A PREGNANT Glen View woman allegedly scalded her husband with porridge after he received a phone call from his suspected lover.
The couple had been married for just three months when the alleged scalding occurred.
In another case, a woman was arrested for also burning her neighbour with hot porridge following a dispute over US$1.
Sarudzai Mupfundirwa (25) of Glen View was not formally charged with attempted murder when she appeared before Mbare magistrate Mr Brighton Pabwe on Tuesday, who remanded her in custody to March 15.
Mr Pabwe advised Mupfundirwa to apply for bail at the High Court due to the gravity of the charge she is facing.
It is alleged that on January 28 this year, Mupfundirwa and Maxwell Mugari were relaxing in their Glen View 3 home when an unidentified woman called on Mugari’s cellphone.
Mupfundirwa allegedly confronted Mugari about the phone call and he plucked out the simcard.
The pair argued for a while and then retired to bed.
It is alleged that Mupfundirwa woke up early the following morning while Mugari was still asleep and prepared a pot of porridge.
The State alleges that when the porridge was piping hot, she poured it on Mugari’s head and face while he was fast asleep.
Mugari sustained serious head and facial injuries as a result of the burns.
A police report was filed which led to Mupfundirwa’s arrest.
In the second case, Pedzisai Chaya (27) from Butler Farm in Hatfield approached Trust Zuze (26) at his homestead demanding US$1 that the man reportedly owed her.
After being told she would get her money later in the day, Chaya allegedly grabbed a pot full of hot porridge which was on a fire and poured it on Zuze.
Chaya, who is being charged with assault, appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Chuma on Tuesday and was remanded out of custody on her own recognition.
When her trial opened on Tuesday, Chaya denied the charge claiming that she splashed the porridge on Zuze in self-defence after he had overpowered her in a fight.
Prosecutor Ms Ressie Nyamombe alleges that on February 2 this year around 6pm, Chaya went to Zuze’s house to ask for her money.
It is alleged Zuze promised to pay her back before the end of the day.
Chaya, the prosecution says, could not stomach what Zuze was telling her and suddenly grabbed the pot and poured porridge all over Zuze.
Zuze, the State says, tried to run away but Chaya hit him on the back of the head with the pot and he fell.
It is alleged Zuze sustained severe burns to the face, chest and hands, and a deep cut on the head.
The trial continues tomorrow.
