FORMER Warriors defender Charles Yohane is now the Bidvest Wits Under-17 coach after spending some time with the team’s Under-19s in previous seasons.

He has set his sights on qualifying for an international Under-17s tournament in Brazil in June.

His tough assignment journey will begin next month when his youthful side play in the Gauteng Future Champions tournament where five local teams will battle it out for the top spot.

Winners will qualify for the international Future Championships Games in April which normally take place in Soweto.

“It’s always great to compete in such extraordinary tournaments. It gives youths international exposure.

“At the moment we’re busy training hard in preparation for the big event, my boys are showing great character and responding well to my playing tactics which is always vital if we want to be champions at the end,” said Yohane.

He said his priority was to win these two championships and see his boys go through to Brazil for the Future Champions Championships in July.

He was deployed to the younger age-group at the beginning of the year.

Some of the countries which will be playing in the junior tournament will be from England, Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands, China, Zambia and Nigeria.

“I’ve told my players that passion, hard work and determination are key to success,” said Yohane.

The Wits youths coach has three Zimbabwean junior players in his team, Shungu Butiro, Tatenda Shamu and Malcom Masvikwa.
