ZANU-PF Matabeleland North Province Youth League yesterday set up a fundraising committee to spearhead preparations for this year’s 21st February Movement.

Matabeleland South province will host the 31st edition of the celebrations to mark President Mugabe’s birthday at Matopos National Park.

Each province is expected to raise $25 000 towards the annual event, Matabeleland North youth provincial secretary for Information and Publicity Cde Elias Sibanda said they held a meeting in Lupane yesterday to prepare for the celebrations. “A committee has been formed to fundraise for the occasion. Its main duty will be to fundraise and our target is $25 000 that should go to the national office,” said Cde Sibanda.

He said the committee is co-chaired by provincial Youth League treasurer Cde Sikhangezile Tshabalala and Cde Prayer Moyo.

The other members are Provincial Youth chair Cde Mbongeni Dube and Cde Daniel Sithole.

The Main Wing’s treasurer Cde Stars Mathe is also part of the committee.

Cde Sibanda said the province was expected to send 10 000 delegates to the 21 February Movement celebrations. Started in 1986, the 21st February Movement seeks to inspire young people to emulate the exemplary character of its patron, President Mugabe, who turns 93 this year.

Matabeleland North hosted the celebrations in 2015 with Masvingo Province hosting last year’s edition.
