WELLINGTON Muchemwa has been suspended by the Zifa Masvingo provincial board after he was implicated in a $9,000 scam. The Masvingo provincial official has allegedly failed to account for the money from the provincial accounts for last year. The executive met on May 4 at an extraordinary meeting in Triangle and resolved to suspend Muchemwa. The in-house fights are disturbing the Masvingo Division Two league as teams are yet to register.

Squabbles in Masvingo allegedly started after Muchemwa failed to account for a total of $2,000 from subscriptions paid by 16 teams.
The matter deepened after an additional $2,100 which was paid by teams who participated in the Zifa Eastern Region Division One promotional play-offs last year allegedly vanished from the account.

It is alleged that signatories to the bank account, Muchemwa and a Zifa Masvingo provincial administrator converted the money to their personal use and opened a state-of-the-art private college.

Sources say Muchemwa’s administration owes Zifa affiliation fees dating back to 2012.
The executive failed to account for another $2,000 donated by Zifa boss Cuthbert Dube.

Division Two teams, irked by the way their funds have been handled in the past, decided not to pay affiliation fees this year.
Masvingo provincial secretary Festus Dumbu refused to comment on the goings on.

“We are busy working towards the kick off of the league and then we can give you all the details you might need about the matter. The only comment I can give you is we are busy preparing for the season,” said Dumbu.

Muchemwa denied the allegations saying it was just a stage in football politics which was being pushed by his “enemies” in the Eastern Region.

Muchemwa confirmed that the league was delayed because of these squabbles but will commence this weekend as they have successfully registered teams.

“This is football politics my friend. These people are just saying all these falsehoods because they just want me out because I know how bad they have been administering football in the province.

“Yes the league was delayed but this weekend we are beginning. Teams like Mutero FC, Chiwara FC, Rujeko FC, United Lions and Muti United have already registered with my administration and everything is now on course,” said Muchemwa.

He said he has not received a letter of suspension adding that he cannot be accused of swindling more than $9,000 since the province cannot raise such an amount.
