ZIFA will table its 2013 audited accounts before the association’s Assembly at Mount Hampden on July 26.
Audited accounts are one key component of good corporate governance. There are key before any sponsor can consider parting with their money as they give a guarantee that it will be accounted for.

Zifa have in the last decade been found wanting in this regard.

Zifa spokesperson Xolisani Gwesela confirmed yesterday that the accounts would be tabled before councillors at the Mount Hampden meeting.

“The association will present its audited accounts on July 26. This will be before councillors at an extra ordinary meeting to be held at Mount Hampden. Work to ensure that they are presented on the day has been going on and we are sure they will sail through,” he said.

Gwesela said the councillors would look at them, debate and pass them if they are impressed with the presentation and arguments.

Zifa like other sporting bodies usually present their accounts at an annual general meeting. Of late they have struggled to present them with the pedigree of the men and women entrusted with running the local game coming into question.

Accounts and budgets are often an item for the annual general meeting.

Not doing so is a breach of the standing rules of the organisation.

Previous Zifa finance man Elliot Kasu often gave a shortage of funds as a reason for their failure to conduct the audit exercise.

Zifa, who intend going into farming and mining to augment their finances, are $5 million in the red with coaches and players apart from service providers among those who are owed.

It is hoped that at the July 26 meeting councillors will get an itemised list of the debts.
