ZIMBABWEAN cagefighters, Elvis “Bulawayo Bomber” Moyo and Themba Gorimbo, registered impressive wins at Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC) Africa 37 held at Carnival City, Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday when they forced their opponents to submissions.

In the opening bout on the main card, lightweight prospect, Gorimbo took on EFC stalwart Alex Cheboub. Gorimbo came out aggressively from the onset while Cheboub seemed sluggish and out of sorts. Gorimbo earned himself a slick guillotine submission early in the first round taking his professional MMA record to 5-0 in about one minute 50 seconds.

It was a good win for the Masvingo-born fighter who spent last year on the sidelines after suffering a shoulder injury.

“It really feels great to make such a great return to the ring. Now I need to win the belt and I’ll be talking to EFC Africa about a possibility of getting a title bout soon. I just love fighting and I really feel good to be representing Zimbabwe at such a big competition viewed throughout the world,” said Gorimbo.

He said he is moving towards realising his dream of being EFC lightweight champion.

Gorimbo, 24, made his EFC debut in June 2013 beating Sydney Makgolo and went on to register his second victory against Juan Lubbe in August 2013.

The Zimbabwean fighter went on to cap his 2013 year with a December win over Chimmy van Winkel.

Gorimbo opened his 2014 season on a good note beating Chaz Wasserman in the second round of a match that left him with a shoulder injury.

Meanwhile, Moyo registered his third consecutive victory knocking out Lance Ceronio, two minutes into the second round of the heavyweight bout.

Ceronio had to be whisked away to the hospital after the fight with an elated Moyo saying injuries were “occupational hazards.”

“I hurt the guy badly and he only shot twice at me but he missed and in turn I smashed his ribs hard. Sadly, he was taken to the hospital after the fight but later my manager told me he had broken some of his ribs. Ceronio will be alright, he knows that this sport is about smashing each other and I wish him a speedy recovery,” said Moyo.

The Bulawayo Bomber wants more fights and more EFC glory.

“I want to fight till I get what I deserve. I want a title bout and I’m hoping to get one soon. I have a great team behind my success and the guys are confident that only the sky can be the limit for me.”

Both Gorimbo and Moyo’s fights were screened live on DSTV’s SuperSport.
