Their flight from Bamako to Nairobi delayed its departure from Senou Airport as the captain of the flight ordered that some of the baggage be off-loaded. The Warriors were on the same flight with the Ugandan Cranes who were in high spirits after beating Guinea Bissau 1-0. After flying into Nairobi, the Kenyan Airways flight could not land at 6.35 am and was diverted to the port city of Mombasa.
At first the passengers were advised that the plane would refuel in Mombasa and then fly to Nairobi but, after more than one hour of waiting, they were ordered to disembark and connect on other planes to Nairobi. By the time the Warriors arrived in Nairobi, their flight had already left and they were again stranded. It needed a lot of discussions for them to be finally booked at the Sentrim Hotel by the Kenyan Airways staff and the team was scheduled to leave Nairobi at 10pm last night.
France-based midfielder Ovidy Karuru stayed behind in Bamako as he connected to his base while Ajax Cape Town’s Khama Billiart also flew from Nairobi to Cape Town.
The Warriors were expected home at around midnight.
On their way to Bamako, the Warriors’ flight from Nairobi also developed a technical fault and it was delayed by more than an hour.
