THE ZIMBABWE School of Mines are confident of toppling Bulawayo Metropolitan Province Darts League leaders Archers when they face off tonight.

Zimbabwe School of Mines will be hoping to use home advantage to hand Archers, whom they are tied with on seven points, their first defeat of the season.

Archers are at the top of the table due to a superior dart difference and a victory for the Zimbabwe School of Mines will see them shoot to the top for the first time this season.

Alfred Thozana, the School of Mines captain, said they had assembled a strong side to wrestle the championship away from defending champions Railstars as well as to fend off the 2013 and 2014 winners Archers.

“This is our year and we won’t allow any club to take the title we believe we’re rightly positioned to take. We’re going to beat Archers and all other teams in the league because our aim is to win the title in style without losing a match,” said Thozana.

Former Archers’ player Josphat Chirwa, Thozana, veteran Jackson Ndimande, Tinaro Machingami and Godfrey Muzonde are some of the experienced players in the School of Mines team that faces Archers tonight.

Archers beat defending champions Railstars 23-16 last week and their captain Ernest Sibanda said they equally had good players in the form of Bornface Maningi, Tawanda Albert, Wilfred Chikakatira and Brian Ndlovu, who are also members of the provincial squad.

Sibanda said they expect a tight game, but is confident of victory.

“To be a champion, you have to beat the best and my players have been working hard to ensure we win the championship without losing a point. We know our opponents are second on the table and fancy their chances of going to the top, but they should wait for sometime as

Archers won’t surrender top spot anytime soon. All teams that we face must be afraid because we want to trample over them to show that we are championship material and not pretenders,” Sibanda said.

His provocative statements have made Bulawayo Metropolitan Darts League exciting with opponents refusing to be psychologically beaten by replying to the Archers captain.
