THE national carrier, Air Zimbabwe, has increased flights to Victoria Falls ahead of the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) general assembly to be held this month. Zimbabwe and Zambia are co-hosting the general assembly from 24 to 29 August. With less than 17 days to go before the start of the tourism indaba, Air Zimbabwe is now providing two flights daily between Harare and Victoria Falls.

In written response to questions from Business Chronicle, Air Zimbabwe public relations executive Ms Shingai Taruvinga said they were offering twice daily flights from 7 August to give travellers a convenient transport service into the tourist destination.

“As Air Zimbabwe we are quite excited with hosting UNWTO as a country and particularly as the country’s flag carrier we are proud to deliver to the world the very best of Zimbabwean hospitality in the skies,” she said.

“The role of such a conference is that it creates a window for the world to have a moment of truth with brand Zimbabwe. It is an opportunity to tell world leaders about all the beautiful things we have as a people. I am quite confident that we will deliver a good experience for the visiting nations together as a people renowned for smiles and hard work.”

Ms Taruvinga said the airline had put in place a flexible customer centric plan which would respond to all the travelling needs of visitors and locals.

“We will be availing extra flights and charter options for those wishing to travel around the country and beyond. Our teams are more than ready to take such bookings and we look forward to delivering a good service which people can talk about when they go back to their countries,” said Ms Taruvinga.

She said the airline had already started receiving increased booking for the month of August.
“This week Victoria Falls will be hosting the invitational golf. As Air Zimbabwe we have laid extra flights from the 7th to the 10th which will be catering for golfers and corporates attending this mega event. Strategies we are pursuing are customer centric and ethnocentric in a way.

“We realise that as a flag carrier our role goes beyond that of just a business entity. We have to deliver to the nation a multiplier effect of benefits to the economy. With plans to increase connectivity we look forward to a prospering economy where opportunities are endless for all Zimbabweans. We foresee a day when Zimbabwe demystifies the myth that the rich only can afford to fly and our borders start welcoming more tourists coming in by air.”
