A POLICEMAN has been arrested for striking a colleague with a brick on the head, inflicting life-threatening injuries over 25 cents change during a beer binge.

The Fairbridge cop, David Mamvura, allegedly lost his temper when Jonathan Zimba told him that the barmaid did not have his 25 cents change after he sent him to buy opaque beer.

Mamvura picked up two stones and struck Zimba on the head at a bottle store in Fairbridge.

The cop appeared before regional magistrate Mark Dzira and pleaded not guilty to attempted murder charges.

The magistrate remanded him in custody to yesterday.

Prosecuting, Tinashe Dzipe, alleged that on December 22 last year, Mamvura was drinking beer in the company of some patrons.“He then gave Zimba $1 to buy opaque beer which he did and brought back the beer saying the barmaid did not have $0.25 change at that moment. Mamvura started shouting and instructed Zimba to go and get his change,” said Dzipe.“Zimba went back to the barmaid and got his change but Mamvura continued shouting and picked two concrete bricks and hit Zimba twice on the head.”

The court heard that Zimba collapsed and was rushed to hospital for medical attention. “Zimba sustained head injuries which are a threat to life according to the medical report. Mamvura was arrested,” said Dzipe.
