Brown Dash

The Brown Dash Tribute Concert scheduled for the end of the month is embroiled in a bitter money fight.

Two baby mamas of the late kwaito singer have complained that they have not received any money from the concert organisers since last year’s event at Ozone in Moletsane, Soweto, while a third woman benefited.

The three women asked to be anonymous to protect their minor children. Brown Dash, whose real name was Sphiwe Mpamile, had three children.

Organiser Mahlomola Kekana said he did not make money due to the postponements of the show and even told Computicket to refund people who had bought tickets. He said he contributed R29 000 to one of Dash’s children.  But the baby mamas are not dancing to the tune, saying their children have not benefited from the concert. Baby mama number three said: “This event is staged to assist all his kids but it was not all his kids who benefited. We don’t have a problem that they paid for one of the children, but we expected them to pay for all kids as promised and communicated to us.”

Kekana said: “It’s true we paid fees for his child who is in college because last year he was sitting at home due to lack of money. The truth is that we are doing this to assist in paying for the kids’ education, nothing else.”

The baby mamas further accused Kekana of sidelining them and not being transparent.

“We got to learn about this year’s event on Facebook unlike last year when we were involved. The issue is that the event is staged to help Dash’s kids. Even sponsors came in because they want to help his kids,” they both said in a statement.

Baby mama number one said she was pleased they paid for her son’s fees. “But I am not happy because I still had to struggle to get the child to school and pay money for food.”

The women said their issue was that Kekana did not want to put everything on paper.

Kekana however said he did not call a meeting with the baby mamas because he asked Brown Dash’s mother Gladys Mpamile to deal with the family and update them.

Mpamile said: “I have been inviting them to meetings and they said they were busy.” – Sowetan
